It served as Rochester's City Hall from 1875 until 1978. It is listed on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Monroe_County,_New_York" class="extiw" title="en:National Register of Historic Places listings in Monroe County, New York">National Register of Historic Places</a> as part of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_Hall_Historic_District_(Rochester,_New_York)" class="extiw" title="en:City Hall Historic District (Rochester, New York)">City Hall Historic District</a>.
The street running from foreground left to middle right is Broad Street, carrying <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_State_Route_31" class="extiw" title="en:New York State Route 31">New York State Route 31</a>. At the time the city hall was built, what is now Broad Street was the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erie_Canal" class="extiw" title="en:Erie Canal">Erie Canal</a>.
