For much of its history, it was the Albany headquarters of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware_and_Hudson_Railway" class="extiw" title="en:Delaware and Hudson Railway">Delaware and Hudson Railway</a>. In the 1970s, the SUNY administrative offices moved in after the building had stood vacant for a few years. It was added to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places" class="extiw" title="en:National Register of Historic Places">National Register of Historic Places</a> in 1972.
