The Academy was completed in 1854, and was the first building built on the former St. Mary's Parish Complex. The building is on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_City_of_Pittsburgh_historic_designations" class="extiw" title="en:List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations">List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations</a>, and is one of the last remaining free-standing examples of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_Revival_architecture" class="extiw" title="en:Greek Revival architecture">Greek Revival architecture</a> in the city.
