Summary

Egg type compression <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/insulator_(electricity)" class="extiw" title="wikipedia:insulator (electricity)">insulator</a>, used to electrically insulate support cables (<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/guy_wire" class="extiw" title="wikipedia:guy wire">guy wires</a>) for utility poles and antenna masts. This design utilizes the superior strength of the ceramic material under compression, as opposed to tension, to support higher loads. Also, if the insulator breaks, the ends of the cable remain attached to each other.
