Potomac Park looking West prior to beginning construcion of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Memorial" class="extiw" title="en:Lincoln Memorial">Lincoln Memorial</a>, Washington, D.C. c1912 The Lincoln Memorial was built at the West (far) end of the Park by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potomac_River" class="extiw" title="en:Potomac River">Potomac River</a> and the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflecting_Pool" class="extiw" title="en:Reflecting Pool">Reflecting Pool</a> built in front of it. Ground was broken for the Memorial on February 12, 1914 and it was formally dedicated twelve years later on Memorial Day, May 30, 1922.
