在<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%BA%A5%E8%8A%BD%E8%92%B8%E9%A4%BE%E6%B3%95" class="extiw" title="zh:麥芽蒸餾法">麥芽威士忌</a>的製作過程中，烘烤(Kilning)階段是將已經開始發芽的大麥，利用加熱的方式烤乾其內部水份以便中止其發芽過程的一道步驟。圖中明顯可見到這些<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A4%A7%E9%BA%A5" class="extiw" title="zh:大麥">zh:大麥</a>已經長出了相當長度的芽，但尚未去除榖殼。
