Fischer is a former brewery in Schiltigheim, France.

History

The Fischer brewery was founded in 1821 in Strasbourg, in the Alsace region in France, and moved to Schiltigheim in 1854, because of the water quality there[citation needed]. In 1922, they took over the neighbouring Adelshoffen brewery and became "Groupe Pêcheur" (the French translation of the German "Fischer"). "Groupe Pêcheur" was in turn taken over by Heineken in 1996.

In 2008 Heineken announced that it would close the brewery by the end of 2009 and transfer production to the l'Espérance (en: hope) brewery, also in Schiltigheim.[1]

Fischer produced Desperados, a pale lager flavored with tequila, now brewed elsewhere. Desperados has a 5.9% ABV. Desperados was first brewed in 1995 in Basque Country. The beer is now sold in over fifty countries. As of May 2009, SHS Sales and Marketing have now taken over the UK distribution of Desperados beer after Tiger beer went out of business. The company uses the Beverage Brands arm of the group, which owns WKD & WKD Core, to push the brand in to independent outlets while SHS concentrate on the managed, leased and tenanted side of the business.

Desperados' listed ingredients are water, malted barley, glucose syrup, corn, sugar, aromatic compounds (75% Tequila), citric acid, and hop extract.

The firm also brewed Desperados Mas. This is 3% ABV and also flavoured with tequila.
