Fred Nicholas

Frederick William Herbert Nicholas (July 25, 1893 – October 20, 1962) was an English first class cricketer who played for Essex County Cricket Club in a first-class career that spanned from 1912 to 1929.

Nicholas was born in Federated Malay States. A right-handed batsman and a wicketkeeper he scored 2634 runs in 76 games for Essex at an average of 22.51 with a highest score of 140, being his only first-class hundred. He took 51 catches and made 16 stumpings.

Nicholas was the grandfather of the former Hampshire County Captain and now Nine Network and Channel 5 cricket commentator, Mark Nicholas. He died in Kensington, London.
