Frederick "Fred" or "Rangi" Houghton Thompson (30 March 1910 – 15 December 1971) was a New Zealand rower.

Born in Christchurch, Thompson won the silver medal in the coxless pair at the 1932 Summer Olympics partnering Cyril Stiles. As a crew member of the New Zealand boat Thompson was eliminated in the repêchage of the eights competition.

He also won two medals in the eights at the Empire Games, silver in 1930 at Hamilton and bronze in 1938 at Sydney.
