The Constituent Assembly of Bangladesh (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ গণপরিষদ, Bānglādēśa Gaṇāpāriṣād); was established in 10 April 1972 after the Bangladesh Liberation War to prepare a democratic constitution and served as its first Parliament as an independent nation. A drafting committee was formed to frame the constitution and was made out of 34 individual on 11 April.[1] The Assembly approved the Constitution on November 4, 1972, and it took effect on December 16, 1972—a day commemorated as Victory day in Bangladesh.[2] Once the Constitution took effect, the Constituent Assembly became the Provisional Parliament of Bangladesh until the first elections under the new Constitution took place, in 1973. The Constitution was ratified under the Awami League and was influenced by Sheikh Mujib.[3]
