CaroMont Regional Medical Center, formerly Gaston Memorial Hospital, is a public, not for profit hospital located in Gastonia, North Carolina, United States. It serves Gaston and surrounding counties. The hospital was organized in 1946 as a memorial to all local soldiers who died in World War II, and the present Court Drive facility opened in 1973. In 2013, the name was changed to CaroMont Regional Medical Center to better reflect its new purpose statement "To provide every man, woman and child in Gaston County the opportunity to live a happier and healthier life."

History of CaroMont Health

1945: Gaston Memorial Hospital was established and began operation on North Highland Street.

Late 1960s: Gaston Memorial Hospital acquired 74 acres located between Cox Road and New Hope Road, which was adjacent to 112 acres owned by Gaston County.

Late 1960s: Gaston Memorial Hospital gave its 74 acres to Gaston County in exchange for $1. Gaston County built hospital facility on property acquired from Gaston Memorial Hospital.

1970: Gaston Memorial Hospital gave Gaston County the land and buildings located on North Highland, valued at $3 million, in exchange for $1 from Gaston County

1973: Gaston Memorial Hospital began operating the hospital facility on Court Drive.

1970s: Gaston Memorial Hospital secured the funds and built the Gaston Lincoln Mental Health Center located adjacent to the Hospital and conveyed the building to Gaston County.

1984: Gaston Health Care and Gaston County entered into the current lease arrangement; Gaston Health Care paid off the remaining 11 years of outstanding bonds which had been incurred to construct the facility.

1985: Gaston County conveyed all equipment, machinery and instruments owned by the County and located at the Hospital to Gaston Health Care.

1993: 92.62 acres of property then being leased by the Hospital are released from the lease and returned to the County for no consideration.

1997: Gaston Memorial Hospital completed construction on the Gaston Professional Center and Gaston Ambulatory Surgery at a cost of $20 million.

1998: CaroMont Heart Center was formed to deliver Heart By-Pass Surgery in Gaston County.

October 2004: The New Birth Place opened.
