Giovanni Enrico Morassutti[1] is an Italian actor and director.
Early life
Giovanni began to study acting in Padua with Susan Strasberg during his tennage years. He moved to New York City at the end of highschool and started to audit and observe[2]the sessions at the Actors Studio, becoming a student of Salem Ludwig at the HB Studio. He then met John Strasberg, son of Lee Strasberg and Susan´s brother, which eventually became his mentor writing the preface of the Italian version of his book Accidentally on purpose[3]in 2016.
Career
While in the Big Apple Giovanni worked as an actor in several American theatre and film productions directed by Ellen Stewart, and Gus Van Sant among others[4]. Giovanni is also a graduate of the National Film School directed by actor Giancarlo Giannini with whom he has also worked on prime time tv series Il maresciallo Rocca e l'amico d'infanzia playing the younger version of the same character[5]. As a theatre director he has been directing Italian actress Lydia Biondi at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York, in Rome and in Milan during the Expo 2015[6]. Giovanni is also the artistic director of Art Aia - Creatives / In / Residence[7]in northern Italy and founder of Art Aia-La Dolce Berlin[8], which is a project space that hosts artists and artist collectives from all over the world. In Berlin he was also cast, among other projects, in For the time being[9]directed by Daniela Lucato that was presented at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Family
Giovanni is a notable member of the Morassutti family[10], an Italian family, originally from Friuli Venezia Giula, active in the wholesaler hardware trade since the early nineteenth century. He also has German and Polish descent[11]from his mother side and he is the first male cousin of actor and martial arts teacher Benjamin Piwko[12].
