Godfrey Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 17,982 and it contained 7,708 housing units.[1]

History
Godfrey Township is named for Captain Benjamin Godfrey, an early settler and the township's largest landowner.[2][3]
Geography
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 36.64 square miles (94.9 km2), of which 34.64 square miles (89.7 km2) (or 94.54%) is land and 2 square miles (5.2 km2) (or 5.46%) is water.[1]
