Graeme Maxton is the Secretary General of the Club of Rome, based in Winterthur in Switzerland. He is the author of the best-selling book The End of Progress as well as Reinventing Prosperity, co-written with Jorgen Randers.

Biography

Maxton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and is related to two prominent Scottish Labour Party politicians, James Maxton and John (Lord) Maxton. He was previously regional director of the Economist Intelligence Unit in Asia, with Booz & Co, Citigroup and American Express and was a visiting professor at Cass Business School between 1988 and 2002. After becoming a Full Member of the Club of Rome in 2013, he was elected Secretary General at the Annual Assembly in Mexico the following year.

Works

He is the co-author of Reinventing Prosperity (Greystone 2016) (German edition Ein Prozent ist genug, oekom Verlag 2016), along with Jorgen Randers and also the sole author of The End of Progress, How Modern Economics Has Failed Us (Wiley, 2011) which was nominated for the 2011 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. The book was translated into Chinese,[1] Czech and German, where it became a top-20[2] best seller.

Maxton's previous books, co-written with John Wormald, include Driving Over a Cliff, (Addison Wesley Longman, 1995), also nominated for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award, and Time for a Model Change, which was Cambridge University Press's Feature Book of the Year in 2004.
