The final of the men's artistic gymnastics team all-around competition at the 2012 Olympic Games was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 30 July. Eight teams of five gymnasts competed from a total of twelve teams which had qualified for the Games.

Teams qualified for the final through the general artistic qualification performances on 28 July 2012. The eight teams with the best combined scores in the qualification moved on to the team final. In the final, each team selected three gymnasts to compete on each apparatus. All three scores counted for the team score; the three scores on each apparatus were summed to give a final team score.

China won the gold medal with a total score of 275.997 points. In second place with 271.952 points was Japan and Great Britain took bronze with 271.711.

Controversy

Entering the final rotation of the all-around, China held the lead, followed by Japan, Ukraine, and Great Britain.[1] Great Britain earned high scores on the floor exercise, allowing them to pass Ukraine in the standings despite a solid rings programme from the Ukrainians. Meanwhile, however, Japan were encountering significant troubles on their final apparatus, the pommel horse. First Kazuhito Tanaka fell during his routine, for a low score of 13.433. Following a solid routine, a bad dismount from the pommel horse by Japan's Kōhei Uchimura initially led to a modest score of 13.466,[2] knocking his team down to fourth place and moving Great Britain to second for a silver medal and Ukraine back to third for a bronze. However, the Japanese team filed an appeal, believing that Uchimura should have been given more points for his dismount, which although botched in execution, was landed without an actual fall. After a video review by the judges, Uchimura's score was increased by 0.7 points to 14.166, bringing Japan back to second place for a silver medal, and knocking Great Britain down to third place for a bronze and Ukraine to fourth place, out of the medal standings.[2][3][4][5]
