Harrowby United F.C. is an English football club based in Grantham (just outside Harrowby, in Grantham, Lincolnshire). They were established in 1949 as Harrowby United until changing name in 2009 to Grantham Rangers. They have since reformed under their original name and play in the United Counties League Premier Division. The club currently plays their home games at The Environcom Stadium in Grantham.

History

Harrowby United were formed in 1949 and initially played at the Harrowby Fields ground, using a lock up garage as changing rooms. They played in the Grantham League until 1966, when they transferred to the Lincoln League. In their first season in the new league the club won the league and cup double. They later went on to play in the Central Alliance and East Midlands Regional League. After the league was renamed the Midlands Regional Alliance, the club finished as runners-up in 1988–89, and won the league and cup double the following season.

In 1990 the club joined Division One of the United Counties League.[1] After finishing third in their first season, they won Division One the following season,[1] but were not promoted due to a lack of floodlights. In 2002–03 they finished as runners-up and were promoted to the Premier Division, where they finished third in their first season.[1] However, after finishing bottom of the Premier Division in 2005–06 the club resigned from the UCL and returned to the Grantham League.[1]

In 2007 the club joined the Lincolnshire League. After finishing bottom of the league in their first season, they switched to the Supreme Division of the Central Midlands League.[1] At the end of the 2008–09 season the club was renamed Grantham Rangers,[2] and moved to the South Kesteven Sports Centre, where they groundshared with Grantham Town. At the end of the 2009–10 season several players and staff left the club, leading it to withdraw from all competitions.[3]

The club reformed in 2012 and entered the United Counties League Division One. Harrowby finished 6th in their first season back in the league, with Northampton Sileby Rangers being crowned champions and AFC Rushden and Diamonds finishing in the runners up spot.

2013-14 Season

During their second season as the newly reformed Harrowby, the club enjoyed a successful FA Vase run reaching the 1st round for only the second time in their history, beating Cambridge Regional College and Peterborough Northern Star 2-1 and 3-1 respectively. Their downfall came against Graham St Prims where they lost 3-1. After a successful league campaign Harrowby finished 3rd behind champions Oadby Town and runners up Eynesbury Rovers. These two clubs were automatically promoted to the United Counties Premier Division. It was announced on 17 May 2014, that Harrowby would be promoted too, due to a restructure of the United Counties Premier and Division One Leagues.
