Hartford Public Schools is the school district of Hartford, Connecticut. The current superintendent is Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, succeeding Christina Kishimoto, who served the Hartford Public Schools from 2005 to 2014.[2][3]

Hartford Public Schools offers school choice, allowing families to request the school setting they feel fits their needs best. This includes varied approaches and schools with areas of specialized focus, such as Asian Studies, Expeditionary Learning, Engineering and Green Technology, and Montessori, just to name a few. Hartford Public Schools also offers the Open Choice program which allows students to attend schools in nearby districts.

Being public means helping everyone succeed

Hartford Public Schools is committed to helping students achieve at every grade level. It established specific goals and measures to identify how well each student is progressing, so that resources can be focused where they are needed most. These goals are part of a Strategic Operating Plan. It is a way the District makes sure that it is responsive to everyone in the education process: students, parents, teachers, and the community as a whole.

Being public means cooperation

The district is fortunate to have many people and organizations supporting it. Some are national in scope, like the Center on Reinventing Public Education at the University of Washington in Seattle (the organization behind the District's Portfolio strategy). Others are local partners, including corporations and businesses, community-based organizations and nonprofits, funders, and neighborhood leaders.
