Hasan Minhaj (born September 23, 1985) is an American actor and comedian. He is currently a Senior Correspondent on The Daily Show.

Career

Minhaj attended the University of California, Davis.[1] There, he became interested in stand-up comedy after seeing Chris Rock's Never Scared, the first stand-up special he watched. He began traveling to San Francisco to perform.[2] In 2008, he won Wild 94.9's "Best Comic Standing" competition, which resulted in his working as an opening act for Katt Williams, Pablo Francisco, and Gabriel Iglesias. He also worked part-time for Ning, an experience he used to write comedy.[1]

In 2009, Minhaj moved to Los Angeles to perform on NBC's Stand-up for Diversity.[1][2] He was a finalist on the program.[1] Minhaj has appeared on Arrested Development, Getting On,[3] Chelsea Lately, and Disaster Date. He was a series regular on State of Georgia. Through posting on YouTube, he was cast on Failosophy.[2] He hosted Stand Up Planet and The Truth with Hasan Minhaj, a web series.[4] He lists Kevin Shea, W. Kamau Bell, and Arj Barker as inspirations.[2]

Minhaj voiced Rabi Ray Rana in the video game Far Cry 4. On November 19, 2014, Minhaj joined The Daily Show as a correspondent.[4] His Off-Broadway show, Homecoming King, debuted in October 2015.[5]

Personal life

Minhaj's parents are from Aligarh, India. They immigrated to Davis, California,[2] but his mother spent the first eight years of his life in India completing medical school.[5]
