Henry Sturgis Morgan Jr. (August 10, 1924 – May 6, 2011) was a United States Navy Rear Admiral, maritime lawyer and the son of Henry Sturgis Morgan and Catherine Adams.

Biography

Henry Sturgis Morgan Jr. was born August 10, 1924 in Oyster Bay, New York to Henry Sturgis Morgan, son of J. P. Morgan, Jr. and Catherine Adams, daughter of Charles F. Adams III. He graduated Groton School and Harvard University class of 1946. On March 28, 1945, he married Fanny Gray Little of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. They had four children: Catherine Adams, Henry, Polly, and Joan. He divorced her in 1972. His second wife was Jean Alexandra McCain, daughter of Admiral John S. McCain, Jr., and was married to her for 38 years until his death. He died in Annapolis, Maryland May 6, 2011 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.[1]

US Navy

Morgan joined the Navy in 1942 and was commissioned in 1944. Morgan commanded USS Tusk (SS-426) June 29, 1957 to May 4, 1959,[2] USS Fulton (AS-11) May 25, 1966 to February 7, 1968,[3] USS Providence (CLG-6) February 3, 1971 to June 22, 1971,[4] the Fourteenth Naval District, Pearl Harbor beginning in December 1971[5] and was Commander Naval Forces Korea from June 1972 to April 1975.[6]

Morgan received the Legion of Merit.[7]
