History

In fall 1972, Chrisney High School and Dale High School merged to form Heritage Hills. Chrisney was established in 1921 and Dale High in 1920. In 1948, the student population of Gentryville High was split between Chrisney and Dale. At one time, some Catholic students attended high school at St Meinrad High, which was hosted by the Benedictine Archabbey of St Meinrad. St Meinrad High closed in about 1953.

Heritage Hills draws students from the towns and communities of: Chrisney, Dale, Evanston, Fulda, Gentryville, Lamar, Mariah Hill, Midway, Newtonville, St. Meinrad and Santa Claus.

Athletics

Heritage Hills belongs to the Pocket Athletic Conference. The school colors are red, white, and navy blue, and the sports teams are known as the "Patriots". The sports offered include: football, wrestling, basketball, tennis, golf, soccer, track & field, cross-country, swimming, diving, volleyball and baseball.

Football

Heritage Hills has reached the Class 3A state finals in football two times, winning the state title in 2000. Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears helped lead Heritage Hills to the championship as the starting quarterback.

Golf

Heritage Hills reached the 2012 state (boys) golf finals, finishing third at the Washington Regional, the first time the team had qualified for the state finals.

Marching band and concert band

The high school marching band, known as the Marching Patriots,[3] has received many awards and honors. The Marching Patriots have received a Gold rating at the District level and have advanced to the regional level each year since 1983. In 2011, the Patriot Band received a silver rating and made it to Semi-State. The Marching Patriots competed in the State Marching Band Finals in 1984, 1986, 1987, 1990, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2011. The program received the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) All-Music Award in 2003–2004, 2004–2005, 2005–2006, 2007–2008, and 2008-2009. The Marching Patriots have participated in the Indiana State Fair Finalists since 2006 and were a finalist in 2007 and 2009.

The band has participated in events throughout the nation over the years, including the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, the 1986 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Virginia, and the parade at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The band program has also developed strength in the area of concert band. In recent years,[when?] the band has consistently received top ratings at concert band contests. Many students have participated in solo and ensemble contests at the district and state levels.[citation needed]
