Hermann Ammer (8 March 1914 – 9 December 2000) was a highly decorated Major of the Reserves in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Hermann Ammer was captured by American troops in 1944 and was released in 1945.
