The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is a New York City-based non-profit organization devoted to serving the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

In 2011, the Hetrick-Martin Institute launched HMI: Newark, a pilot program to serve LGBTQ youth in Newark, New Jersey.[1][2] The pilot program was a success, and HMI: Newark became a full-fledged program.[1] In July 2014, Dr. Ashawnda Fleming was appointed Executive Director of HMI: Newark.[1] The program was expanded to include four counties in New Jersey and was renamed HMI: New Jersey.[2]
