Hockey North America
Hockey North America (HNA) was established in 1980 as a non-checking, non-fighting organized ice hockey organization separate from USA Hockey. Started back in 1980, the then National Novice Hockey League, or NNHL, took a group of adults who had never really skated before, and started the very first school for the adult beginner. Fast forward 30 years, and you’ve got Hockey North America – the hockey league that has taught tens of thousands of people to play hockey and to this day, continues to innovate features and service in the adult hockey market that are now the most widely copied concepts in arena & league management today. In addition to leagues in several areas of the United States, Canada and EuropeB HNA also offers adult beginner hockey school, vacation tournaments, and "National Team" trips to Europe. Teams compete at Level A through D, with the Beginner Schools not actively competing until they finish their training.
One of the highlights of HNA is the National Championships held in either Toronto, Canada or Las Vegas, Nevada. Teams qualify by either having to win their local tier championships, play in the local playoff finals or receive a special invitation from the league.
Seasons
HNA offers adult recreational hockey almost year round, at all levels. The main season is the Fall/Winter Season (Regular Season). This season usually begins between October and November, and consists of 20 regular season games plus double elimination playoffs for those team which qualify. The Playoff Champion of each division automatically qualifies for the National Championships. The Spring Season is a newer product HNA offers and consists of 12 Regular season games plus 1 playoff game for every team. This season usually starts in March or April (depending on location), and often overlaps both Fall/Winter and Summer Seasons. The Champions from this season do not qualify for the National Championship. The Summer Season is a 12-15 game season with 1 playoff game guaranteed to every team. Summer usually start in June or July and runs until October or November. The Champions from this season do not qualify for the National Championship. Season format and scheduling varies from City to City.
