A Holy See is the jurisdiction of a bishop that is not subordinate to the jurisdiction of another bishop of higher rank. Specifically, the term can refer to:

  • The Holy See of Antioch, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, currently de facto located in Beirut, Lebanon
  • The Holy See of Cilicia, the Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, located in Antelias, Lebanon
  • The Holy See of the East – any of several episcopal sees of autocephalous Christian churches in the Middle East and India that consider themselves placed in the apostolic succession of St. Thomas
  • The Holy See of Rome, the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic bishop of Rome (the Pope), holding the Vatican City as sovereign territory
  • The Holy See of Mainz, the historic title of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz in Germany.
