Hyrynsalmi is a municipality in Finland and is part of the Kainuu region.
The municipality has a population of 2,419 (31 March 2016)[2] and covers an area of 1,521.36 square kilometres (587.40 sq mi) of which 100.32 km2 (38.73 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 1.7 inhabitants per square kilometre (4.4/sq mi).
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
The world championships in swamp football is held annually in Hyrynsalmi.
