The Magaluf Weekender is a British reality television series following a group of 18- to 24-year-olds spending a weekend at a hotel resort in Spain. Series 1-3 was shot at the Lively Hotel in the holiday resort of Magaluf, Mallorca. Series 4 relocated the series to Ibiza, and is titled Ibiza Weekender.

The six-part first series aired on ITV2 between 6 January 2013 and 10 February 2013. It returned for a second series on 17 September 2013. Series 3 premiered on 5 January 2014, and Series 4 premiered on 8 February 2015.

Overview

Each week, the show follows two different sets of young friends. For some, this is their first holiday without their parents, as they check-in to the Lively Hotel with their friends for three days they will never forget. The hotel rigs cameras to film every aspect of their holiday in a Big Brother-style of filming. In series 2, cameras have now been installed in the bedrooms.

The final vacationers were Imogen, Jordan, Ali and Tobi.

Episodes

Series 1 (2013)

Series 1 began airing on ITV2 on 6 January 2013. Series 1 was filmed in the summer of 2012. Brett, Imogen, Jaime-Leigh and Jordan served as the reps.

A trio of small-town lads from Kings Lynn in Norfolk check into the hotel this week. The single boys are on the look-out for love. Pearl and Ruby from Bow, East London all check into the hotel and the group enjoy a night. Tom looks all set to make a move on Pearl before ruining his chances by getting drunk.

Three childhood friends from North London called Josh, Danny and Gianni check into the hotel this week. They are joined for a weekend in the sunshine by best friends and beauticians, Hannah and Christie from Worthing. The girls have never been abroad before without their parents and are determined to enjoy their new found independence.

Party girls Dom and Zoe from Reading arrive in town, followed by East London lads Aaron, Omar, Jon and James. Resort rep Jordan wastes no time in getting to know the girls.

Checking in this week are three fun-loving girls from Birmingham - Bex, Laura and Steph, on their first holiday away from their parents. Steph is due to celebrate her 23rd birthday during the trip and Bex admits she is looking for romance and quickly sets her sights on Romeo rep Jordan.

Essex sisters Abby and Vicki check into the hotel with their friend Chian. Romance is in the air for the reps as Jordan gets cosy with Abby, while Jaime-Leigh has her eye on one of the girls. A former couple who are now just friends also begin their break - Paul hopes to rekindle his relationship with Edmar, but all the partying threatens to get in the way of his plans. Last in the series.

Series 2 (2013)

On 4 September 2013, it was announced that The Magaluf Weekender would return for its second series on 17 September.[3] Series 2 was filmed in the summer of 2013. Imogen, Jaime-Leigh and Jordan returned as reps and they were joined by new rep Tobi following the departure of Brett.

Series 3 (2014)

Series 3 began on 5 January 2014. Series 3 was filmed in the summer of 2013 after the completion of series 2. Imogen, Jordan and Tobi returned as reps. Jaime-Leigh departed in the series 2 finale and was replaced by Ali.

Series 4, transmitted from 8 February 2015, relocated the series to Ibiza, and was hence renamed Ibiza Weekender. Imogen became head rep in the new series. Jordan returned in Episode 3.

Series 5 (2016)

Series 5 will air later in 2016. Deano and Jordan returned in episode 1, with Imogen making a full return in episode 2. Jordan for this series has replaced Rachel as Head Rep.[4][5] Rachael returns as guest in episode 3, attempting to reconcile with Jordan after he'd ignored her since dating Megan.. Jordan was experiencing difficulties with his relationship whilst in Ibiza - In episode 4 saw the departure of Jordan leaving Deano as head rep and Dave second in command.

Reception

On 13 January 2013, The Magaluf Weekender was the second most tweeted about show of the day, inspiring over 29,000 tweets.[6]

Reveal magazine rated the show positively, saying: "Unlike the semi-scripted formats of shows such as TOWIE, Geordie Shore and Made in Chelsea, this unique series captures the true, unguarded moments of these young adults by using rigged cameras to film every aspect of their holiday in a Big Brother style of filming."[7]
