Immigration Watch Canada (IWC) is a Vancouver-based anti-immigration organization and website co-founded by Dan B. Murray, a former teacher.[1] It blames the current immigration policies of Canada on political corruption and calls for a sharp decrease in the number of immigrants allowed into the country annually from 250,000 to 25,000.[2][3]

Brampton Flyer Controversy

In April 2014, IWC gained national attention with a flyer depicting a black-and-white photo of an all-white group with the caption "From this," above a colour photo of a group of angry Sikh protesters, with the caption "To this." [4] The flyer was later denounced by Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne as "hateful."[5] In response, Dan Murray, the group spokesman told CBC News: "She's gotten where she is because of freedom of speech and now what she's telling us is to shut-up… I suspect she knows that her party depends on the recent immigrant vote and that she's just hiding that fact and trying to portray us as anti-immigrant."[5] In August 2014, another IWC flyer depicting a Sikh with a mark across his face was denounced as hateful and disgusting by Ontario's Citizenship and Immigration minister Michael Chan.[6] It was also condemned officially by a unanimously adopted motion in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.[7]
