SaidIt.net
I haven't finished the SaidIt.net much less barely started it. It's a Voat and Reddit-style alternative, a third uncensored way leaning more towards trutherism, anarchism, and anti-corruption - but all with a modicum of decency are welcome.
User:Froglich has already found me there before I got to finish this day by posting my latest new cross-platform project here.
Update: It was a Froglich impostor. Someone thought it would be funny to make a new account to goof with me.
- (Interjection: I have never posted on Saidit, and am not ever likely to.--Froglich 20:57, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
Several projects, actually. Because there's so little community here, despite having fantastic potential and a powerful wiki, SaidIt has a small vibrant community and the interactive voting forum that I expect will grow in time.
I started my Truther Top 20s project here on InfoGalactic some time ago, but only recently with SaidIt, has it been kickstarted into gear with a dedicated sub. (A "sub" is a subject/topic/issue/folder/category/thing on Reddit, etc. that you may subscribe to.) Read about it here and/or there. https://saidit.net/s/TrutherTop20s/
Every week I am allowed only one new sub to add. Today I started an InfoGalactic sub: https://saidit.net/s/InfoGalactic/ and only time will tell whether anyone will give a tic about IG.
Next week will likely be one of my two big projects: "Trutherism 101". If I can focus on it and git er done and ready.
I firmly believe authentic progressives, anarchists, Marxists, truthers, and alt-right folks have way more in common than most of us imagine and that 99.99% of all our problems deliberately stem from those 0.001% at "the top".
Feel free to comment here or there to give me shit or praise or correct some detail(s). ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 03:26, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Image issues
(Copied from my talk page:)
Q: Also, are all the image hosting bugs worked out? A: I believe so. -- Crew (talk) 22:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- You might get a kick out of the InfoGalactic banner I made for SaidIt... https://saidit.net/s/InfoGalactic/ It's a grayscale indexed PNG to save space so perhaps that's why it won't recognize it as a PNG to upload here. If anyone here cared or wanted it I could make it happen. ~ JasonCarswell (talk)
I'll mention that there are often more broken images than correct images on articles. Is there any group that is working on an image uploading bot, or some way to mass transfer public domain images from Wikipedia? I've fixed a few articles, but it is currently the biggest downside to Infogalactic --OmegaPaladin (talk) 04:11, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia Portals
Did Wikipedia update their portals templates and protocols? I think I broke something on InfoGalactic. I believe Portal:Free software redirects to Portal:Free and open-source software, I tried to import the latest, and now I think neither work. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 05:36, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Import Shortcut
Any chance we could get an "Import pages" shortcut? Not directly on the articles - too easy. Place it on the article's history page - so folks may look at the article's history before they overwrite what may be someone's work. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 12:52, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

- Don't panic. As I understand, they are in the midst of replacing the ancient Wikimedia/MediaWiki engine with a better one. This is a massive undertaking. The end result may be as far-reaching as Infogalactic itself. Rectified (talk) 08:21, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

- Good to know thanks. BTW, do you know anything about "Social Galactic", another Vox Day creation? I've been here for a few years and had zero interest in VD. A few weeks ago, I forget how, I came across a DarkStream. I'd seen a few before only to see what the IG creator was about. I was not impressed then. But now I've been following on the regular, more out of interest and the occasional gem, and just to hear more different ideas. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 21:53, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

- You're welcome. Social Galactic is the Twitter of Infogalactic, currently under development. - Good to know. If I had citations and a better understanding I would add it to the Vox Day article. IG and SG folks might like SaidIt.net. And related to building new alternatives you might like to check out SaidIt.net/s/DecentralizeAllThings/. I don't know what is planned with Gab, but I like the Dissenter thing. A WP gorilla (literally) wouldn't let me add "Comment Freely" to the BitChute article. Comment Freely sounds like it will be like Dissenter. I'm guessing they know about Mastodon too. I don't know how but SaidIt would like to get decentralized too. Any plans for IG? Ever look at Everipedia? ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 22:44, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Protect tab
So there's a new "protect" tab. Anything you guys want to share about it? Is there an instruction manual? Who's it supposted to keep out or in? Is it for public or private content? I'd like to report new developments, big and small, on https://saidit.net/s/InfoGalactic where there are lots of progressives, non-partisans, truthers, anarchists, liberals, conservatives, alt-right and AnCap folks who may be interested in InfoGalactic, Darkstream, Vox Day, etc. Is there another community somewhere or is this dismal boardroom the extent of any so-called community? We've discussed whether it's worth reaching out to IG. Being the one with most experience, I actually suggested to go with WikiSpooks. I like IG and it's freedoms and utilities but I have no affection for a non-existent community and a closed off admin team who don't acknowledge good, bad, or ugly ideas and questions. I want to like IG and feel like I'm contributing to a greater good. Without feedback I feel like a parasite in an empty Colosseum but I know that's not true. I'm making all the efforts, but there's no community. It's not a party if you're dancing alone. FYI, SaidIt has been growing exponentially since Reddit is banning lots of folks. SaidIt is now in the top 30k websites in the USA and rising fast. Read about it at SaidIt. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 07:13, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Is this community still active?
Hi there; I'm new here. The concept of a unbiased and factual online encyclopedia appealed more and more to me after seeing Wikipedia's blatant bias and a radical shift to the far left. However I was alarmed when I saw very little activity here. Is this community still active? ~ Rampant Writer
- I think we're more about quality than quantity at the moment, but that may improve further. Once again I propose doing what Wikipedia did, and creating a version of each article that any user can edit without registration; or maybe throwing open those articles that have not yet been edited; or allowing unregistered users to create new articles only; or to add paragraphs only. Assuming any of that is technically feasible of course. Jack-arcalon (talk) 18:23, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
-
- I do not in any way, shape, or form approve of any contributions from unregistered participants -- that simply throws open the door for algorithms and bot-farms, as well as more general tragedy of the commons and Dunning–Kruger effect problems. (Tip: since I do not expect this site to last forever, for every article I create, and there's an epic fuck-ton I'm proud of, I also archive both its main page and its edit page to archive.is and web.archive.org. --That way I can hit the ground running at some other place when the time comes.) --Froglich 05:28, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

- Part of the problems with InfoGalactic, as I've expressed before, is that there's no evolution from Wikipedia. For example, we have no protocols for various viewpoints. We have no additional tabs for additional materials, such as opinion pieces, essays, etc. We haven't even got a different colour scheme to be distinct from WP. I hope IG will not die anytime soon. Vox Day's focus seems to be on the Darkstream vlog, the new Unauthorized.TV video broadcasting thing, publishing Milo's books, comics, etc. and another social media platform, SocialGalactic, I think. They seem to be doing a pretty good job of it, though IMO they'd do better to be opensource and decentralized rather than their empire fortress behind the paywalls, etc. Then again, asstrolls are everywhere. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 23:15, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

- Sort of, from my limited observation, it's more like slow water drip than a churning river of activity. I'm rather hoping the Social Galactic tech comes soon which will help with coordinating and improving IG. The Chrome/Brave Extension, IG Transporter, has been very useful. BitChute embeds?
I would appreciate it if someone could either show me how to properly embed videos from BitChute, fix it, and/or configure InfoGalactic to be able to do so. I've only tried this one: https://infogalactic.com/info/Pedophocracy#Authority.27s_ineptitude.2C_complicity.2C_corruption.2C_and_rigged_.22justice.22_systems. Thanks in advance. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 04:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
- I attempted the embedvideo tag and BitChute isn't recognized. If you read the MediaWiki site the supported services section doesn't include BitChute. Just below the supported service you'll see a link to a Gitlab repository for the embedvideo extension. I suspect the IG admin would have to modify that extension to allow BitChute as a recognized embedvideo supported source.

Auto url search, correction, forward
I was attempting to find the equivalent for the list of Pennsylvania governors on Infogalactic from WP, it exists, however the URL contains one capital letter https://infogalactic.com/info/List_of_Governors_of_Pennsylvania compared to the similar WP URL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_governors_of_Pennsylvania. Notice the G is upper case while the other is lower case.
Is there a method for having a likely or similar URL be forwarded to the matching Infogalactic page? Right now, if there is a URL that contains a camel case, IG will take the user to the page reading "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or create this page.". Thank you to anyone willing to provide guidance or answers to this problem.KLuJe5TRWX (talk) 13:32, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

WikiSpooks migration
I like the deep encyclopedia of IG, even if many articles are out of date. I also like where WikiSpooks is going. I joined both in 2016 when I got banned from Wikipedia for a year for pushing inconvenient truth. WikiSpooks has more content than it once did and has faster servers. I prefer the classic format of IG and WP but WS actually has adopted a great RDF database tool (Resource Description Framework) that I'm keen to learn and use. Essentially it's kind of like server side includes on websites, or little modules that the database can combine to make all new pages with, yet without all the writing. What might be a section on a regular article could be a module presented in several. For example, the same section might appear on Pedophocracy, UK/Corruption, UK/VIPaedophiles, UK/Sex crimes, etc.
I intend to mirror much of my content onto WS embracing this stuff and more. During this process with fresh eyes I hope to offer a lot of constructive criticism to help WikiSpooks improve, and Robin is very receptive, communicative, and open to improvements. If practical, it may even rebrand to not be limited to tradecraft and politics. For example, I hope to push more alternative solutions, including decentralization and open source stuff. They're also open, as InfoGalactic is, to personal projects on the wiki that aren't necessarily encyclopedic.
I'll also be mirroring my Bittersweet Seeds project here, on WikiSpooks, and on SaidIt. Hopefully we will all benefit from whatever new attention I can bring with this indie project. I'm really going to push forward with this, not only this year, but this decade, with some greatness amid much apathy and despair. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 18:03, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Brave Browser vs non-Secure sites (HTTPS vs HTTP)
For some reason suddenly InfoGalactic.com is no longer "safe" on my Brave (web browser) and every single page or edit requires and additional few clicks to advanced settings, and confirm danger but go anyway, etc. I've turned off the "Brave Sheilds" for InfoGalactic.com but the problem persists anyway. Unfortunately Brave doesn't have a white list that I know of either. Imma gonna give em hell for that - again. This time it might force me to switch browsers again. Ugh. Maybe there's something new IG admins did that can fixed to undo it? ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 02:52, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
" The connection to the server isn’t secure, the webmasters aren’t using https which is why you’re getting this warning. If infogalactic.com secured the site (which every site should do), then no more warnings. "
According to Brave support (link). So that's why this is happening. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 04:14, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

What happened?
We totally missed out on this one: List of scientists who disagree with the scientific consensus on global warming
Who knows what else?
It seems pretty obvious that the mirroring process stopped years ago. Why? As I said years back, it would be good to keep mirroring, AND marking the articles with basic categories (see below) and hatlinks to distinguish what is actually mirrored, forked, or original content on IG. I doubt it would be difficult to draft up a script to determine what is mirrored or not, compared to Wikipedia's vast yet precise archived history. Discrepancies (such as the deleted list linked above) could be hand sorted other unique categories.
Category:Infogalactic content - all of it!
- Category:Infogalactic forked content
- Category:Infogalactic mirrored content
- Category:Infogalactic original content
So what happened to the auto-mirroring?
And what happened to the grand mission of InfoGalactic? I was banned from Wikipedia for a year and landed here - and for that I'm grateful. But I don't see any community to speak of on IG. I even made a place on the SaidIt forum for us: SaidIt.net/s/InfoGalactic.
I'm grateful for IG and the ability to write uncensored articles and build my non-encyclopedic articles in a corner, but I have never felt secure here or known what was going on with the admin, their goals, etc. Vox Day's page isn't even kept up to date with his latest goings on. Eventually I'll finish my Bittersweet Seeds story that I hope folks will appreciate. When presentable and promote-able, if the masses chose to support and grow it, I intend to kick back to IG and other resources "mooched" from. Without a sense of community and/or knowing what the future goals are, it's difficult to trust in this vast desert of a website. I really hope that my Bittersweet Seeds project, when ready, might be a catalyst for a significant boost to InfoGalactic. (Then, maybe, just maybe, we could hire some goal specific help, etc. ie. Decentralization, co-dev with WikiSpooks, SaidIt, etc.)
If ever there is a remote possibility of trouble in the future of IG, I would hope that you might announce it here in this Infogalactic:Galactic boardroom and/or, on talk pages, and/or via editor emails, etc. I suspect we all would like a fair chance to archive our works. For non-admins reading this, don't panic, as I have no information good nor bad on the future of IG.
Thanks for your attention. Resume your lives. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 06:38, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Editing/Updating practices
I've a question about the level of editing that may be provided. If I see a Wiki page up to date should I copy/paste the entire page or just the section that is updated? KLuJe5TRWX (talk) 03:43, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- This requires some judgement. If the article on Infogalactic has not been modified, then simply import the Wikipedia article. If the Infogalactic article has been modified then try to merge the changes. If you are going to import lots of articles I can give you enough privileges to use the import features of the Special Pages link which will save you time (https://infogalactic.com/info/Special:SpecialPages). -- Crew (talk) 21:02, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
-
- Better than removing bias, IMO, is to keep the bias, condense if necessary, and explain why it's biased, and present the alternative perspective(s) that may conflict with it. This way folks may judge for themselves to triangulate on their own truths under their own logic and culture. In this way the best ideas should win out.
-
- Also, please consider adding appropriate sub-categories of, particularly regarding mirrored, forked, and original content. Hatlinks would be great too. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 21:43, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
Can we get mw:Extension:TemplateStyles installed?
It would help with, e.g., the reference templates used in Opinions of Curtis Yarvin on various systems of government. Thanks. Jean Valjean (talk) 16:43, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Developing a browser extension
We were talking over in the Dark Enlightenment Riot about creating an Infogalactic-related browser extension.
What it would do is, when you're on a Wikipedia page, inform you if a longer article exists on Infogalactic. It could get this metadata by pinging the APIs, for example:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&titles=Curtis_Yarvin&prop=info
It could then inform the user, "Infogalactic's article on Curtis Yarvin is longer (16,371 bytes compared to Wikipedia's 21,783)" and offer a courtesy link to Infogalactic's article. The theory is, it takes more words to tell the whole truth, so the longer article is probably better.
This guide gives a little info about how to write a Firefox extension. But I wonder if there's an extension already that does anything analogous, via another site's API? (We're aware of Dissenter.)
In some cases, where articles are named differently on the two wikis, it might also be appropriate to follow a redirect to its target, but we'll add that functionality in v1.1 of the extension, or something. It's easy enough to see when a page is a redirect.
I see that there are some Firefox extensions at wikipedia:Wikipedia:Tools/Browser_tools/Mozilla_Firefox; maybe some of them have usable code that can be cannibalized, idk. I'll have to check.
Anyone have any helpful experience or ideas? I've never written a browser extension before. Thanks, Jean Valjean (talk) 19:22, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- I think this is a terrific idea! I don't know if this is any help but you might like to check this list, notably WriteFreely which I believe is like Dissenter - SaidIt.net/s/DecentralizeAllThings/wiki/ Applications.
- I have a couple additional ideas/requests - AND I suspect you might get a lot of support and even coding help if you were to consider adopting some of these:
-
- Make it open source. Maybe even develop it with MediaWiki.
- Invite other MediaWiki sites to participate. ie. sister sites, WikiSpooks, Wookiepedia, Wikia, Everipedia, RationalWiki, etc
- Don't limit it to Wikipedia. For example if you're on Wikiquotes, Wiktionary, or WikimediaCommons, I'd like to know what other wikis have articles on them.
- Custom user preferences for which wikis they want to monitor (perhaps have a white list for them to add to rather than have them all to subtract from).
- I don't want to know only when there is a longer page - I want to know that there are other articles, whether longer on InfoGalactic or a short but killer one on WikiSpooks or Wookiepedia. I wouldn't mind seeing the score-like bytes displayed to compare.
- Bonus: I would love the addon to be able to compare InfoGalactic articles to Wikipedia article histories with the same timestamp:
- determine if InfoGalactic's article is an old or current mirror copy - or if IG is missing that article
- if it's just a mirror ask to be updated (not all WP articles improve over time)
- label/tag/categorize all mirror articles and/or altered fork articles (with timestamp)
- import article to InfoGalactic option (simple with 1 or 2 clicks)
- Also, what's the Dark Enlightenment Riot about? ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 04:10, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Do you provide any database dumps?
I was wanting to do some analytics. Thanks, Jean Valjean (talk) 04:49, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- This is also a great idea. WikiSpooks provides a weekly open Wikispooks:Site_Backup. I suspect that IG has more than 6gb so it might be more practical to only do it monthly or quarterly - and IMO WikiSpooks is totally missing out by not offering torrents (bit and/or web) which would not only distribute the load but also avoid problems with incompleted downloads, etc. If it's at all possible, I would also recommend torrent sharing zipped files and add the new content zipped to the old zips in new torrents so folks can manually adjust and not have to download the whole entire backlog when only the last month or few is necessary - if possible. I'm not sure that's clear but it's not unique and I can explain further if requested. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 04:10, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Infogalactic's search relationship with Wikipedia
I think I may have misunderstood how Infogalactic works WRT Wikipedia. (Is there a technical overview somewhere?) My understanding is this: When an Infogalactic user searches for a topic, Infogalactic first searches its own topics database. If the topic doesn't exist on Infogalactic, Infogalactic searches for the topic on Wikipedia. If the topic exists on Wikipedia, Infogalactic copies the topic "home" to Infogalactic and presents it to the user. I'm not sure whether the topic is then added to Infogalactic's database or not. How far off am I here?
I've been busy with other things for a couple of years but I use IG daily and want to contribute more articles as time permits. Thanks! --Diggins (talk) 18:44, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- My understanding is that Infogalactic initially forked from Wikipedia. Now Forkbot occasionally copies new articles from Wikipedia, either new articles or ones that haven't been updated locally. Otherwise it's up to editors to keep Infogalactic up to date.

Images
I've been updating a lot of IG pages and I notice that the majority of them have missing images, making the articles look scrappy and unappealing. What should be done to rectify this? I don't know how to go about carrying out the image importing process myself.--Scooterbase (talk) 20:36, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Broken Image links
Relatedly to images I was recently updating the video connector images and found an odd behavior with the pixel size option. The top image at https://infogalactic.com/info/SCART will display a broken image link when set to 300px however if the pixel size is changed to anything but 300px the image will correctly display. I uploaded a new file in case it was somehow different but that did not fix the issue. I suspect this might be a backend issue and could impact other pages as well. Not sure what just happened to the Facebook article. Looks like someone overwrote the entire article with a bot I haven't seen before. Please fill me in on what happened, link me to info about that bot, and/or address the changes to the article if necessary. Thanks. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 15:07, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

How is there not an article on Clown World on InfoGalactic? ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 11:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Projex.Wiki
My Cassandra Team (folks from around the world) has soft-launched https://Projex.Wiki for projects of any kind (blogs, essays, image galleries, organizing rallies, prepping, production management, resisting tyranny, self promotion, and so much more). Robin (admin of WikiSpooks), d3rr (admin of SaidIt), and myself are starting admins but in time and with growth we'll take on more. InfoGalactic folks are welcome to participate there or even help with basic or advanced wiki stuff. We have many templates to install, things to learn (ie. batch photo uploads), and policies and projects to draft and hammer out. Original IG encyclopedic content may of course still be mirrored/backed up on WikiSpooks and Projex - and maybe we can build bridges to help make this more automated and convenient. We aim to bridges to many sites, and plan to branch out and build more platforms for our communities' utilities. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 11:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Keeping up to date
@Crew: @JasonCarswell: Infogalactic needs to do another automated mass sweep of English Wikipedia in order to import any and all pages that existed there but haven't been here yet. You missed out on so many things like the war in Ukraine. Papa143 (talk) 11:03, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
Everipedia
@Crew: @JasonCarswell: Unfortunately Everipedia was shut down and rebranded into a specialty encyclopedia about bitcoins but there's some hope. According to Taiwanese media, Anonymous made pointed criticism against English Wikipedia when hacking China and United Nations. Papa143 (talk) 11:26, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- From my limited browsing of Everipedia, not much was done with the content fork, and they focused on currently trending topics like crypto or rapper shenanigans. I think there is a place for an openly-edited encyclopedia, without being mired by mediocrity, bias, etc. Xcalibur201 (talk) 00:23, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- The Wayback Machine have saved the main entrance of Everipedia but I doubt they saved all the datas of Everipedia. https://web.archive.org/web/20150111213708/https://www.everipedia.com/ --Sd-100 (talk) 00:53, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
skin/design
Wikipedia recently overhauled its design, and it's absolutely hideous and moronic, lmao. Which reminds me, IG would do well to borrow aesthetic ideas from wiki2, create night mode, etc. The current setup is better than WP's brand new awfulness, but a simple thing like that would pay dividends imo. WP policies that should get the axe
WP is not all bad. It has provided some useful experience/precedent in how to run a wiki, but obviously, it went astray. Here I'll list a few policies that should be left behind on IG, along with rationale, and others may add on if they wish.
BRD (Bold, Revert, Discuss): It seems reasonable at first, but this is instrumental in the gatekeeping and obstructionism that is so common there. What it means in practice is that the Lord of the Article can revert anything he doesn't like, bullshit you on the talk page (made-up objections, ignoring points, strawmanning, raising the bar for RS impossibly high, other typical tactics), and effectively make it impossible to contribute. This should be replaced with BD(R), so that content stays up by default, and it only comes down if there's a compelling/obvious reason.
ONUS: Related to the above, this states that
- REDIRECT Template:Talk quote inline
- This is a redirect from a page that has been moved (renamed). This page was kept as a redirect to avoid breaking links, both internal and external, that may have been made to the old page name. For more information follow the bold category link. Once again, this makes it way too easy to gatekeep articles with flimsy objections. Once again, the case should be made for exclusion/reverts, instead of inclusion. If the content is that much of a problem, it should be easy to get it removed (eg obvious violations).
NPOV (Neutral Point of View): As I'm sure you've noticed, having a contrived "neutral perspective" quickly leads to shenanigans, as obviously biased positions with strong RS support overwhelm minority views that are lacking in RS but are just as valid. That's not to say we should go out in left field, but this constructed, lowest-common-denominator POV should be abandoned. Instead, just use whatever POV best suits the topic at hand. For controversial articles, they can have a split POV, with pro and anti sections fairly representing each side.
FALSEBALANCE: Relating to the above, this policy is used to censor one side of a controversy in favor of the side that is more popular and/or better represented. If that means putting "conspiracy theories" next to "truth and facts", so be it! Let the reader make up their mind.
That's what I've got for now. I realize the last two overlap with Infogalactic:Seven_Canons, but I still thought it was worthwhile to spell it out here. Xcalibur201 (talk) 05:20, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
