Jagatsinghapur is a town and a municipality area in Jagatsinghpur district in the Indian state of Odisha. Jagatsingpur got the recognition of a district on 1 April 1993. It is 41 km from Cuttack. Jagtsingpur district has made Odisha's literature and culture bright. Paradeep Port and fertilizer factory is in this district. Alaka, Biluakhai, Kusumi, Hansua, Kuanria and Lunijhara rivers belong to this district.

History
Jagatsinghpur District came into being on 01.04.1993. Before that, it was a part of the old Cuttack District which was divided into four new districts. It is surrounded by the districts of Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khorda, Puri and Bay of Bengal.

Paradeep Port
Paradeep is the largest port of Odisha. The cart festival of Sidhala Jagannath Temple is very famous. The district collector does Chherapanhara on the Cart of Sidhal Jagannath Temple.
Sarala Temple is a famous temple of Jagatsingpur district where Goddess Saraswati is worshiped as Maa Sarala in near Tirtol town. Siddheswar Parida was changed to Adikabi Sarala Das due to the blessings of goddess Sarala. It is 15 km from Jagatsinghpur town. Garh Kujanga, Jagatsinghpur, Jhankad, Paradeep and Paradeep Garh are some of the visiting places of this district.Gorekhanath temple is the mostattractive place in jagatsinghpur. it is four km from sarala temple. Anather attraction of Jagatsinghpur district is the Jagannath Temple of Garoi which is 3 km from Machhagaon. This temple has been built in the bank of Devi Nadi (Devi river) with a charming atmosphere. Another visiting place is Salajanga Ashram, which is nearly 7 km from Naugaon hat. Siali[1] beach is about 20 km from Balikuda block is the most attracting beach of Jagatsinghpur dist; this place is better for picnic, in every season. Tulasi gadi temple which is at Diasahi, approx 6 km from Jagatsinghpur towards Balikuda is another place which attracts many people for public or family parties. Jagannath temple in Ambasal (approximately 2 km from Balikuda Block)is considered as one of the oldest temples. Kunja Bihari Temple in Sadeipur which is about 9 km from Jagatsinghpur.
Swami Vivekananda Memorial autonomous college (SVMAC) is at Jagatsing pur.
Transport
The railway line from Cuttack links Paradip. The nearest railway station from Jagatsinghpur town is Gorekhnath Station which is near about 10 km from Jagatsinghpur. Train service is not frequent; it is better to go by bus.
Buses from Jagatsinghpur bus stands are Paradeep, Machhagaon, Naugaon, Naharana, Baharana, tandikul, Katara, Sidhala, Rourkela, Puri, Kakatapur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Balasore,Rourkela and Kolkata. There is frequent bus service available from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Balasore. Jagatsinghpur is only 40 km from Cuttack.
Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Jagatsinghapur had a population of 51,688. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jagatsinghapur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 69%. In Jagatsinghapur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Politics
Current chairperson of Jagatsinghpur municipality is Biplab Chaudhary (Indian national congress), successor of Madhusudhan Sahoo (bjd) in 2013 and MLA from Jagatsinghpur (gen) Assembly Constituency is Bishnu Charan Das of BJD, who won the seat in state elections in 2009 and in 2004 and earlier as a JD candidate in 1995 and 1990. Other previous MLAs from this seat were Kailash Chandra Mallik of INC in 1985, Krushna Chandra Mallik of INC(I) in 1980, and Kanduri Charan Mallik of JNP in 1977.[3]
Jagatsinghpur is part of Jagatsinghpur (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
