James Plantain (or Plaintain), also called "King of Ranter Bay", was a Jamaican-born English pirate and leader in Madagascar. In 1715, Plantain established a base of operations at the harbour, a few miles north of St. Mary's Island, and in time established his own fiefdom after gaining control of the island. In fear of rebellion, he fled the island in 1728.
