Jeremy Dear

Jeremy Dear (born c. 1976)[1] was the General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists in Great Britain and Ireland, from 2001 to 2011. He was the youngest ever leader of the NUJ and only the second to serve two terms.[2] Prior to his election he was a National Organiser for the union. He also led a 11-month strike at the Essex Chronicle against de-recognition of the NUJ.[2]
He has a reputation as one of the Awkward Squad of left-wing trade unionists. He is married to Paula Dear who is a journalist with the BBC. Jeremy Dear is a supporter of the Marxist newspaper Socialist Appeal.[citation needed]
