Jerry Fried

Jerry Fried was the Mayor of Montclair, New Jersey from July 1, 2008 to July 1, 2012.[1][2] Prior to entering politics, he worked in advertising and founded TrueJustice.

Fried ran for election in 2008 against Ted Mattox and Joyce Michaelson and pledged to quit his day job if he was elected mayor. Fried won the May 13, 2008, election with 40.29% of the vote, by a margin of 429 votes.[3]

Personal life

Fried has been a resident of Montclair since 1991. He is the founder of Bike Montclair[4] and also organized the Tour De Montclair for 5 years.[5] Fried also worked in the advertising business for 25 years before becoming the mayor of Montclair.[6] Fried is the founder of TrueJustice and a youth adviser/teacher at the Unitarian Congregation in Montclair.[5] His wife, Karen Neilsen-Fried, is an artist and co-curator for Studio Montclair, a local artists' collaborative.
