James Patrick Anthony Dore (born July 26, 1965) is an American stand-up comedian, political commentator, host of The Jimmy Dore Show and co-host of The Aggressive Progressives on The Young Turks Network.

Life and career

Dore was born on July 26, 1965, into a Catholic family of twelve on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois of Polish and Irish descent. He started performing in 1989.[1][2]

Jimmy Dore has made many appearances on late-night television on shows such as ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS's The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and NBC's Late Friday. He starred in a Comedy Central Presents half-hour special on April 9, 2004. His Comedy Central hour-long stand-up special, Citizen Jimmy, was chosen "Best Of 2008" by iTunes, and was named one of the Top 5 Comedy DVDs of 2008 by Punchline Magazine.[3][4] He was a writer–performer for the off-Broadway hit The Marijuana-Logues[5] and he had a role in the 2008 documentary film Super High Me. Dore has also performed at the Montreal Comedy Festival, the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Amsterdam Comedy Festival, and for U.S. troops in Afghanistan.[2]

He hosted the podcast Comedy And Everything Else with his wife Stefane Zamorano (aka The Miserable Liberal) and previously with Todd Glass, who departed from the show in late 2009 (November 28th, Episode 61). On his own monthly show, Pop and Politics at the UCB theater in Hollywood, much of his material focuses on the absurdity of modern politics. In June 2009 he began producing The Jimmy Dore Show, a weekly one-hour comedic look at the news, which originates at KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles, airs nationally on the Pacifica Radio Network and online on TYT Network. Dore competed in the 7th season of Last Comic Standing, but was drummed out of the competition in the first round.[6]

Dore appeared as a frequent guest host on Current TV's political commentary show The Young Turks with Cenk Uygur. He now appears on the web series The Young Turks, as well as hosting The Jimmy Dore Show, a political commentary series under the TYT banner. Started May 18, 2011, The Jimmy Dore Show YouTube channel, has 248,312 subscribers & 81,673,678 views as of June 26, 2017 (not including the uncountable mirrors and sampling).[7]

Dore wrote his first book, Your Country Is Just Not That Into You in 2014, published by Running Press. It reached #2 in Political Humor books on Amazon.com.

His comedy special, Sentenced to Live, produced by Comedy Dynamics, was released on October 6, 2015. Much of his recent material is focused on the corporate news media, social criticism, and politics.

He hosts his own monthly show, Left, Right & Ridiculous, at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood.

Started in 2016, The Aggressive Progressives is hosted by Jimmy Dore and other TYT cast who feel the Democratic party drifted and became primarily corrupted war-mongering neo-cons that no longer represents interests of them and the American people.

Controversies

Jimmy Dore, according to rumors that surfaced at the official Young Turks chat portal on Mibbit[2], was fired after an altercation with executive producer Steve Oh, who he allegedly punched in the face.[citation needed]

In the 21 November 2014 episode of the Jimmy Dore Show, Chris Matthews of Hardball was called a "piece of shit" because he was a chauvinist who treated his progressive guests harshly while giving his rightwing guests, like Ted Cruz, an easy ride.[citation needed] When fans criticized him for his name-calling, Dore defended himself on Twitter by saying his critics had a "blind spot" about Chris Matthews.[citation needed] Ironically, on his 21 November 2014 episode of Hardball [3], Chris Matthews called Ted Cruz a "clown" and pushed back when one of his guests suggested that Obama was to blame for the Republicans not supporting immigration reform and when another guest suggested that many people in "big business" really want immigration reform.[citation needed]

On 21 July 2016, at the Republican National Convention, Alex Jones (radio host) interrupted a live broadcast of The Young Turks and a shouting match soon erupted starting with Cenk Uygur and Roger Stone. While there was posturing, shouting, and shuffling no one was hurt, though Jimmy Dore spat a mouthful of liquid (water? tea?) at Alex Jones, caught on several cameras, from several angles, at least one streaming live, on set.[8][9][10][11]. Jones claims he was invited onto the set by a Young Turks producer. Both sides talked about the controversial scandal of it all for weeks... Others wonder if this was an organic verbal altercation or manufactured drama staged to drum up ratings and distract from the bleak, boring, and tedious political landscape of our oligarchic feudal corporatocracy. Miraculously everyone survived to tell the tale unaware that it wouldn't be for long as their government was setting up their health care to fail preferring elite tax breaks and more money spent on bombs.[citation needed]

On 27 July 2021, on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Jimmy Dore explained the persistent side-effects he suffered after receiving his second dose of a Moderna vaccination (main article: List of deaths and injuries following COVID-19 vaccination). He tweeted his reactions and detractors falsely claimed he was "anti-vax", Dore clarified "no, I got the vax - I got it, when people have the reaction to an experimental vaccine that is not FDA-approved, you're supposed to not suppress the reactions, you're supposed to ask people what the reactions are so they can make the vaccines better"[12].

Personal Life

Dore currently lives in Pasadena, California.
