John Holden (bishop)

John Holden was a missionary Anglican bishop.[1]

Biography

He was born in 1882 and educated at Durham University[2] He was ordained in 1907[3] and went to work for the Church Mission Society in China, becoming in time an archdeacon. In 1923 he became Bishop of Kwangsi-Hunan [4] and was translated to Szechwan in 1933.[5] Returning to England in 1938 he became Vicar of St Budock and Archdeacon of Cornwall. Six years later he became a residentiary canon at Truro Cathedral and in 1947 he resigned as archdeacon.[6] He died on 14 August 1949.[7]
