Journey to the West is an upcoming 3D Chinese-American action fantasy film based on the classic novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en.[2][3] The film will be directed by Zhang Jinlai and produced by Mark Johnson.[4][5] It stars Zhang Jinlai, Ma Dehua, Chi Zhongrui, Liu Dagang, and Kris Wu.[4] The film is scheduled for release in 2016.

- Chi Zhongrui as Xuanzang, Tang dynasty Buddhist monk.
- Liu Dagang as Sha Wujing

Production
On April 15, 2015, the producers held a press conference in Beijing and announced that they would be producing the film with Paramount Pictures.[6] Principal photography has begun.[7]
Casting
While announcing beginning to produce the film, Paramount revealed that Zhang Jinlai, Ma Dehua, Chi Zhongrui will reprise their roles as Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Xuanzang from the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. As the result of Yan Huaili, who portrayed Sha Wujing in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West, has been dead for years, Liu Dagang will replace his roles as Sha Wujing.[8][9]
