"Just Like Paradise" is a 1988 song by American rock singer David Lee Roth. Released after he had left Van Halen, the track was produced by Roth and guitarist Steve Vai. It was released as the lead single from Roth's second solo album, 1988's Skyscraper. The song reached the top 10 of the charts in the United States and Canada.

Music video

The music video for the single was released in January, 1988.[2] Like other Roth videos, it heavily featured the live stage performance. In between the stage pantomime are clips of Roth rock climbing at Half Dome.[3] The video concludes with Roth on a surfboard gliding across a live crowd.[citation needed]

Release and reception

Released in 1987, "Just Like Paradise" entered the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1988 and peaked at number six in March.[4] It reached number four on the Singles Sales chart, number eight on the Hot 100 Airplay chart,[4] It also spent four weeks at number one on the Mainstream Rock chart.[4] The song peaked at eight in Canada,[5] number 27 in the United Kingdom,[6] number 13 in New Zealand, and number 77 in the Netherlands.[7]

Music critic Charles Bottomley called the song "a polished ode to decadence, with a chorus you would be unashamed to punch the air to".[8] Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia described it as an "ultra-saccharine" single that tries "too hard to achieve an exaggerated pop sheen".[9]
