Justin O'Beirne is an American cartographer known for his contributions to Apple Maps as well as his cartography-focused blog 41 Latitude.[1][2][3]
In 2011, he spoke at Google I/O on the effectiveness of map styling techniques for usability.[4] Through his public speaking and blogging, O'Beirne advocates the attention to cartography as a tool for digital mapping usability.[3][4]
O'Beirne believes the future of cartography is in mobile devices, asserting that
For the first time in human history, the majority of the world might soon be using the same map. Maybe not the exact same map — but a tiny set of very similar maps: namely, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Open Street Map, and just a small handful of others.[5]
