The station has had several studio locations since its debut in 1947. In 1952, the station moved to the present location, a former funeral home, at 745 Main Street in Deadwood. Its two tower transmitter site is east of town, off Highway 14A. They broadcast with 5,000 watts during the daytime, and 1,000 watts at night. The station's skywave signal was received as far away as Salt Lake City Utah, on September 21, 2009[2]

KDSJ airs several news and entertainment featurettes from Dial Global and ABC News Radio (among other sources) during its morning and noon newscasts. Syndicated religious programs air on Sunday morning. Weather services are taken from the public domain National Weather Service forecasts. Although syndicated music programs were previously a staple of the station's afternoon drive lineup, the station currently only carries the Classic Countdown. The station's local music mix is advertised as oldies but also is advertised to include music from the 1950s to the present.
