KSON (97.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve San Diego, California, USA. The station, founded in 1964, is owned by Entercom and the broadcast license is held by Entercom San Diego License, LLC. The station's studios are located in San Diego's Mission Valley neighborhood, and the transmitter is located in East San Diego in the Emerald Hills neighborhood.

KSON broadcasts a country music format.[2] KSON simulcasts their FM programming at 92.1 FM in Escondido, California.

The station was most recently assigned the KSON call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on March 1, 2009.[1]

On December 8, 2014, Entercom announces that it was purchasing Lincoln Financial Group's entire 15-station lineup (including KSON) in a $106.5 million deal, and would operate the outlets under a LMA deal until the sale was approved by the FCC.[3] The sale was consummated on July 17, 2015.

Awards

In 2007, the station was nominated for the top 25 markets Country music Radio & Records magazine station of the year award . Other nominees included WUSN Chicago, KYGO-FM Denver, WYCD Detroit, KEEY-FM Minneapolis, and WXTU Philadelphia.[4]

GEORGE-FM

In January 2014, KSON celebrated George Strait for his final appearance on The Cowboy Rides Away Tour as became GEORGE-FM for the entire month of January.
