King represented Mississippi in the nationally televised Miss USA 2006 pageant broadcast live from Baltimore, Maryland, on April 21, 2006, but was not placed.[2] The pageant was won by Miss Kentucky USA, Tara Conner.

King graduated from Lawrence County High School in 2004 and later pursued a degree in business administration at Copiah Lincoln Community College. She was a member of her graduating classes Hall of Fame. She is currently[when?] a manager and salesperson at a bridal and formal shop in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Her interests and hobbies include sketching, swimming and modelling.

After passing on her crown to Jalin Wood in November, King married T.J. Johnson on December 22, 2006.[3]
