Early life
Van Damme was born Kristopher Julien Van Varenberg, on May 20, 1987, in Los Angeles, California, the son of martial artist/actor Jean-Claude Van Damme and ex-bodybuilder and fitness competitor Gladys Portugues.[2][3]
Van Damme moved to Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada. At the age of five, he started martial arts training with taekwondo. He has also studied Shotokan with his father for five years and has a green belt in that style.[citation needed] His parents divorced in 1992, when his father began an affair with actress Darcy LaPier, whom he married in February 1994. However, his parents remarried in 1999. He has a sister, Bianca and a half-brother, Nicholas.[4]
Film career
He made his film debut in an uncredited role as Young Luc Deveraux in the 1992 film Universal Soldier. He later appeared in such films as The Quest and Derailed as Ethan Kristoff (the son of Van Damme's character, Jacques Kristoff). In 2009, he co-starred as Miles in Universal Soldier: Regeneration.[5]
