Linear Air operates a private part-135 charter operator and, separately, an air taxi marketplace connecting operators of technically advanced 3-8 passenger air taxi aircraft with regional travelers frustrated with worsening airline service and tedious driving. The company is headquartered near Boston in Bedford, Massachusetts. Linear Air's primary operations base is located at Hanscom Field (ICAO: KBED) in Bedford, Massachusetts, and the company also operates from a base at Westchester County Airport (ICAO: KHPN) in White Plains, New York. Through its air taxi marketplace company, Linear Air seeks to make it as easy to book an air taxi as it is to schedule an Uber car

In 2004, Linear Air began an operation focused on addressing demand between the large market for commercial air travel and the very small market for private air travel. In 2013, the Linear Air created the first air taxi marketplace, offering its own fleet of Eclipse 500 very light jets and 12 Cirrus SR22 single-engine piston aircraft.[1][2] Since 2013, the marketplace has expanded to dozens of aircraft types and hundreds of air taxi aircraft. Linear Air primarily serves the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, as well as Eastern Canada and the Caribbean, and has recently added air taxi operators in the southeast, southwest and midwest regions of the United States.[3][4]

History

The company was co-founded in the summer of 2004 by President and CEO William Herp, and noted aviator Michael Goulian. With the help of an initial round of funding and just two employees at the time, Linear Air began operating a turboprop aircraft in the emerging air taxi industry. As a founding member of the Air Taxi Association, Linear Air and other member air taxi operations are speeding the adoption of the air taxi model to make it available to an increasing number of businesses and individuals.[5]

Destinations

Linear Air and its marketplace partner operators can currently fly to thousands of locations in the United States, as well as Eastern Canada and the Caribbean. With bases in Massachusetts, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, north, west and south Florida, northern and southern California and the upper midwest, the company offers travel options to major metropolitan areas as well as smaller, more convenient airports closer to passenger destinations. Linear Air taxi can be found on major internet travel sites including Kayak.com and Hipmunk. The company also provides a tool on their website where visitors can obtain an estimated price and itinerary for both air taxi and private charter services.[6]

Fleet & Flight Operations

Linear Air's charter company operates a fleet of Eclipse 500 very light jets. Manufactured by Eclipse Aviation, the Eclipse 500 is a member of a growing very light jet (VLJ) aircraft category. In addition to seating two pilots, the business jet can accommodate up to four passengers with luggage. The plane is powered by two lightweight Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofan engines.

Prior to taking delivery of its Eclipse jets, the company previously operated executive-configured Cessna Grand Caravans. The Cessna Grand Caravan is a turboprop jet engine aircraft with its engine manufactured by Pratt & Whitney.

In 2013, Linear Air created the world's first air taxi marketplace, partnering with operators of Cirrus Aircraft to offer a fleet of single-engine, four-to-five seat Cirrus SR22s, an aircraft that has been the best-selling airplane in its class for the past 12 years.[1][3]
