Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe (LVEE) is an annual international conference of developers and users of free and open source software. It takes place in the end of June - beginning of July in Belarus, near the Hrodna city.[1][2]

The event is aimed at combining both professional communication and leisure activities for the free software professionals and enthusiasts.[3] LVEE organizers are Minsk Linux Users Group and open source community active members from Hrodna and Brest. Recommended languages are Belarusian, English and Russian.

History

The first LVEE conference took place in 2005.[4] It was inspired by a Russian LinuxFest event, after the large Minsk delegation had taken part in it in 2004. This visit resulted in decision to organize a similar but more official event for technical specialists from Belarus and neighboring states, who are interested in F/LOSS.[5] LVEE format is composed of presentations, workshops, and round tables.

Currently LVEE is the only general-topic open source conference held in Belarus (information based on the year 2008 interview of the conference press-secretary [6] and claims on its official website). Despite its historically formed naming, conference is not limited to GNU/Linux operating system, but also covers wide range of platforms: from workstations and servers to embedded systems and mobile devices.[7] Presentations subjects include development and maintenance of free software, adoption and administering of F/LOSS-based solutions, peculiarities of free software licenses usage.[8]

Financial and organizational support of the conference is provided by native and foreign IT companies involved in open source projects and communities: Altoros, EPAM Systems, Promwad, SaM Solutions, etc.
