Australian Athletics Championships for women have been conducted since 1930.[1]

At the first National Championships, only three events (100 yards, 80 metres hurdles, and High Jump) were contested, but the programme has since expanded to include the full track and field programme. Until 1963, championships were only held once every two years.[1]

The most successful athlete at the Championships has been thrower Gael Martin who won 20 events in the 1970s and 1980s.[2]
