List of Boeing 737 MAX orders

This article lists the orders made by airlines and other buyers for the Boeing 737 MAX family of aircraft, which is currently under development by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, a division of the Boeing Company.

Orders and deliveries

History of orders

Initially, the customers for the 737 MAX were not disclosed, except for American Airlines. On November 17, 2011, Boeing released the names of two other customers – Lion Air and Aviation Capital Group. At that time, Boeing reported 700 commitments from 9 customers for the 737 MAX.[1][2] Then on December 13, 2011, Southwest Airlines announced they would be the launch customer for the 737 MAX with a firm order of 150 aircraft and 150 options.[3] In December 2011, Boeing had 948 commitments and firm orders from 13 customers for the 737 MAX.[4][5]

In late January 2012, Norwegian Air Shuttle announced a firm order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, along with 100 options, and 22 Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft. This is the first European order for the 737 MAX and the entire order is valued at $11.4 billion.[6][7] In July 2012 Virgin Australia announced an agreement to order 23 MAX aircraft.[8][9] Later that same month, Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced an order of 75 MAX aircraft.[10][11] Then on July 12, 2012 United Airlines announced an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 9 and 50 737-900ER aircraft, with the total order valued at $14.8 billion.[12]

In late July 2012, Aeromexico announced an agreement to order 90 737 MAX 8 aircraft.[13] In August 2012, Singapore Airlines' subsidiary Silk Air announced an agreement to order 31 737 MAX 8 along with 23 737-800 aircraft.[14][15] In September 2012, Ireland's air leasing company Avolon announced a firm order on 10 737 MAX 8s, 5 737 MAX 9s and 10 Next-Generation 737-800s.[16]

On October 1, 2012, Gol Transportes Aéreos confirmed a firm order of 60 737 MAX 8s.[17][18][19] On October 3, United States/Ireland's air leasing company GECAS finalized a firm order of 75 737 MAX 8s, plus 10 737-800s.[20][21] On that same day, an unidentified airline announced a commitment to 22 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[22] On October 11, 2012, Alaska Airlines announced a firm order of 50 Boeing 737s, 20 737 MAX 8, 17 737 MAX 9, plus an additional 13 Boeing 737-900ER Next Generations.[23] On October 30, 2012, Russia's Aviation Capital Services announced a commitment to buy 35 Boeing 737 MAXs.[24]

On November 4, 2012, Kuwait's ALAFCO finalized a firm order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[25] On November 5, 2012, Aeromexico finalized its order of purchasing 90 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 9s, 60 of which are firm, and 30 are options.[26] On November 14, 2012, SilkAir finalized its order for 54 Boeing 737s (31 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, plus 23 Boeing 737-800s).[27]

On January 2, 2013, air leasing company Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has confirmed a firm order for 60 737 MAX aircraft, 50 of which are the MAX 8, and 10 which are the MAX 9.[28] After this order, the Boeing 737 MAX surpasses the 1,000 order milestone.[29]

On February 1, 2013, American Airlines finalized its order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX of the MAX 8 variant.[30] On February 13, 2013, Icelandair finalized its order for 12 Boeing 737 MAX, which later was increased to 16 aircraft (9 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and 7 Boeing 737 MAX 9s).[31] On April 9, 2013, Turkish Airlines announced plans to order 50 737 MAX aircraft including 40 MAX 8s, and 10 MAX 9s, which was made a firm order on May 14, 2013.[32]

On May 15, 2013, Southwest Airlines placed a firm order for 30 737 MAX 7 aircraft and became the launch customer for the MAX 7 variant. With this order, Southwest has a total of 180 737 MAX aircraft on order.[33] On May 31, 2013, TUI Travel PLC announced a commitment to order 60 737 MAX aircraft, with an unknown split of MAX 8s and MAX 9s.[34] TUI Travel's shareholders approved the order on July 10, 2013; it plans to receive 40 MAX 8 and 20 MAX 9 airliners.[35]

On June 17, 2013, Skymark Airlines announced plans to acquire an undetermined number of 737 MAX aircraft, becoming in the process the first Japanese airline to be interested in the type.[36] On June 19, 2013, air leasing company CIT Group made a firm order for 30 MAX 8 aircraft.[37] On the same day, Travel Service Airlines committed to order three 737 MAX 8s;[38] this was made a firm order on August 7, 2013.[39]

On August 7, 2013, it was reported that Jet Airways has ordered 50 737 MAX airliners.[40] On August 29, 2013, Westjet signed a letter of intent for 65 737 MAX airliners, consisting of 25 MAX 7s, and 40 MAX 8s.[41][42] This was made a firm order on September 29, 2013.[43]

On November 17, 2013, FlyDubai made a commitment for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 11 737-800 aircraft valued at $11.4 billion.[44] Two days later, on November 19, SpiceJet announced plans to acquire an undetermined number of 737 MAX aircraft for its fleet expansion.[45]

On January 6, 2014, FlyDubai finalized its order for 75 Boeing 737 MAX and 11 Boeing 737-800.[46]

On February 11, 2014, Myanma Airways signed a $960 million deal with GECAS to lease 4 Boeing 737 MAX planes along with 6 Boeing 737-800s.[47] On February 19, 2014, SunExpress announced an order for 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[48]

On March 12, 2014, SpiceJet announce an order for 42 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[49] On March 19, 2014, Comair (South Africa) announced an order for 8 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[50]

On April 1, 2014, Air Canada announced an order for 61 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, 33 of the MAX 8s, and 28 of the MAX 9s.[51]

On May 15, 2014, New Eastern Air Lines announced an option for 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft along with their firm order for 10 Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft.[52][53]

On July 14, 2014 Monarch Airlines committed to ordering 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with the option for 15 more MAX 8s.

On September 9, 2014, Ryanair announced their commitment for 200 Boeing 737 MAX 200s (100 firm, 100 options), making them the launch customer for the newest 737 MAX Family member.[54][55] On September 20, 2014, Ethiopian Airlines revealed themselves as one of the unidentified customers for ordering the 737 MAX. The airline announced a firm order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, with the purchase rights for 15 more MAX 8s, making it one of the largest single Boeing order by number of airplanes from an African carrier.[56]

On October 12, 2014, Garuda Indonesia placed a firm order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.[57] On October 31, 2014, Monarch Airlines finalized their order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8s with an option for 15 more MAX 8s.[58]

On November 10, 2014, Dublin aircraft leasing company SMBC Aviation Capital became the 50th Boeing 737 MAX customer with their announcement for a firm order of 80 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This order is valued at more than $8.5 billion at list prices, and one of the largest single order for 737 MAXs from a leasing company.[59]

On December 1, 2014, Ryanair finalized their order for up to 200 Boeing 737 MAX 200s. The airline's order includes 100 firm orders, and 100 purchase rights for the same type. This makes Ryanair the official launch customer for the Boeing 737 MAX 200.[60] On December 15, 2014, new Canadian low cost carrier Canada Jetlines announced a firm order for five Boeing 737 MAX 7s, with an option for 16 more of the same type.[61]

On April 10, 2015, Panama-based Copa Airlines announced an agreement for the purchase of 61 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 9s. This order is worth up to $6.6 Billion.[62][63][64]

On June 15, 2015, Indonesia's Garuda Indonesia announced their intent to purchase 30 more Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This is the second order for the Boeing 737 MAX the airline has announced, and will bring the total order number from 50 to 80.[65] On June 16 2015, three aircraft leasing companies and two airlines announced their commitment to purchase, or firm orders for the Boeing 737 MAX. Dutch aircraft leasing company AerCap announced a firm order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which is valued $10.7 billion at current list prices.[66] Dublin aircraft leasing company SMBC Aviation Capital announced a firm order for 10 more Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This deal adds to a 2014 order placed by the leasing company for 80 737 MAX 8s, bringing their total order amount to 90 aircraft.[67] Chinese start-up airline Ruili Airlines announced their commitment to purchasing up to 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with financial support from AVIC International Leasing.[68] Chinese aircraft leasing company Minsheng Financial Leasing announced their commitment to purchasing 30 Boeing 737 jets. This order will be a mix of Next Generation and MAX aircraft.[69] South Korea's Korean Air announced their commitment to purchasing 30 Boeing 737 MAX jets, with an option for 20 more.[70] On June 19, 2015, Polish charter airline Enter Air revealed themselves as an unidentified customer for an order for the Boeing 737 MAX. The airline announced an order for two Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and two Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft.[71]

On May 23, 2016 Vietnamese low cost carrier VietJet Air ordered 100 Boeing 737 MAX 200 aircraft valued at about USD $11.3 billion. This order was noted as the largest ever single commercial airplane purchase in Vietnam aviation.[72]
