The Utah Utes football program is a college football team that represents the University of Utah. The Utes have completed 122 seasons and played in 19 certified bowl games. In 1910, Utah joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), the program's first conference affiliation. The Utes won eight conference championships, including six consecutive titles from 1928 to 1933. In 1938 the Utah, along with six other RMAC schools left the conference to form the Mountain States Conference, more commonly known as the Big Seven. After the Colorado Buffaloes withdrew from the Big Seven, the conference was known as the Skyline Conference. The Utes won ten conference championships while in the conference. In 1962, Utah became a charter member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). When the charter members of the WAC left at the end of the 1998 season, Utah became a charter member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC) winning four conference titles. In 2010, the Utes withdrew from the MWC and along with former conference rival Colorado, became the 11th and 12th members of the Pac-12 Conference (Pac-12) in the newly formed South Division.

Notes

  1. Overtime rules in college football were introduced in 1996, making ties impossible in the period since.[3]
  2. From 1962 to 1967, the AP Poll only ranked the top 10 teams. From 1936 until 1961, the AP Poll ranked 20 teams. In 1968 the AP Poll returned to ranking 20 teams. It ranked 20 teams until 1989 when it expanded its listing to the top 25 teams, which is the number it ranks currently.[8] From 1936 to 1967, with the exception of 1965, the AP released its final poll at the conclusion of the regular season and before the bowl games. In 1965 and every year since 1968, the AP has released its final poll after the bowl games have concluded. From 1950 to 1973, the final Coaches' Poll was released at the conclusion of the regular season and before the bowl games. Since 1974, the final Coaches' Poll has been released at the conclusion of the bowl games.[9] The Coaches' Poll has been sponsored by multiple organizations since its creation in 1950. Its current sponsor is USA Today.[10]
  3. The NCAA did not certify the Pineapple Bowl as a bowl game; the game counts as a regular season game in official NCAA statistics.[11][12]
