A list of stratovolcanoes follows below. The Smithsonian's Global Volcanism Program database of geologically recent volcanoes lists over 700 stratovolcanoes.

This list is incomplete; you can help by expanding it.

• Mount Nyiragongo, Goma. It contains an active lava lake inside its crater, which overflowed in January 10, 1977 after the crater walls fractured. It is listed as a Decade Volcano

• Mount Kenya, which contains several volcanic plugs on its peak.

Philippines

• Mayon Volcano in Albay. The volcano is famous for its perfect symmetrical cone shape. It has been also the most active volcano in the Philippines.
• Mount Pinatubo. The volcano catastrophically erupted in 1991, thus causing the volcano to collapse on itself, forming a caldera, with a lake on the inside. The eruption even caused the world's climate to cool down for less than a month.

• Stromboli. Continuously erupting for more than 2000 years. The second most active volcano in Europe, next to Mt. Etna.
