Møre og Romsdal County Municipality (Norwegian: Møre og Romsdal fylkeskommune) is the regional governing administration of Møre og Romsdal county in western Norway. The main responsibilities of the county municipality includes the running of 23 upper secondary schools with 2,000 teachers. It also owns and finances the county's road network, although operation is done through the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. Further responsibilities are public transport, 37 dental clinics with 200 dentists, culture and cultural heritage.[1][2]

Governance

The county council (Norwegian: Fylkesting) has 47 members that are elected to four year terms. The council usually meets four times a year to conduct business. The council elects one of its own to be the county mayor who leads the council. The council also elects 13 of its own members to an executive committee, which is headed by the county mayor. The executive committee meets more often.

2011-2014 term

The current council is led by County Mayor (Norwegian: Fylkesordførar) Jon Aasen (Labour Party). The County Deputy Mayor is Gunn Berit Gjerde (Liberal Party). After the Norwegian local elections, 2011, the council consists of twelve representatives from the Labour Party, eleven representatives from the Conservative Party, eight representatives from the Progress Party, four representatives each from the Liberal Party, Christian Democratic Party and Centre Party, three representatives from the Sunnmøre List and one representative from the Socialist Left Party.[3]
