MP3 is the third major release by the band Marcy Playground. It was released on March 23, 2004.

Overview

The album was much anticipated by Marcy Playground fans through a five-year wait after their 1999 album Shapeshifter. The band's long awaited return came in early 2004 with MP3, possibly meant as a double-entendre for the 3rd major release by a 3-man band whose abbreviated name could be "MP" and the uprise of MP3 players at the time the album was released.

To the dismay of many fans the album had no tour to support it and the album had no singles entering any known charts. The music in the album shows to be less grungey than their previous albums Shapeshifter and their self-titled album, the latter spawning their one hit single Sex and Candy.

The album had four singles released, "Deadly Handsome Man", "Punk Rock Superstar", "No One's Boy", and "Blood in Alphabet Soup", none of which enjoyed much immediate mainstream success. A few years after its initial release as a single, "Punk Rock Superstar" was featured on the original Xbox 360's playlist, giving the song a second and more successful turn as a single. The album was considered a classic by the band's die-hard fans, but a flop to some critics including Allmusic.
