MacKenzie Bezos (born April 7, 1970)[2] is an American novelist and the wife of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com.

Early life

Born MacKenzi S. Tuttle, she was raised in San Francisco, California by a father who was a financial planner and a mother who was a homemaker.[3] She graduated from Hotchkiss School in Connecticut in 1988[1] and at Princeton University she was an English major who graduated with highest honors in 1992.[4] She studied under writer Toni Morrison, who said Bezos was "one of the best students I’ve ever had in my creative-writing classes."[3]

Personal life

In 1992, MacKenzie worked for Jeff Bezos at D.E. Shaw, a New York City hedge fund.[5] They married in 1993,[6] and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1994. They have four children.[7]

In 2012, MacKenzie Bezos and her husband donated $2.5 million to a Washington State campaign to legalize same-sex marriage.[8]

In November 2013, MacKenzie Bezos wrote an extensive review of a newly released book The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon by Bloomberg Businessweek journalist Brad Stone about Amazon.com.[9] She chose to publish her critique of the book, which she says "has too many inaccuracies" and is a "misrepresentation of the culture at the world’s largest online retailer",[5] as an Amazon.com review, with a 1-star rating.[10]

In 2014, MacKenzie Bezos founded Bystander Revolution, an anti-bullying organization, where she currently serves as executive director.[11]
